About
Hibby Thach is a PhD student at the University of Michigan's School of Information. They research identity, content moderation, and digital cultures, specifically around queer and trans people of color's experiences online with hate and harassment both from users and from platforms. She primarily uses interview and digital ethnographic methods, valuing and centering the narratives of marginalized people like her. Additionally, they mostly focus on online gaming communities, but engage with social media platforms generally.
Areas of interest
Her work is a part of and is in conversation with various fields and research areas, as she considers herself a multidisciplinary scholar (questioning the distinction of disciplines in general). They work within the domains of human-computer interaction; social media and social computing; content moderation; game studies; and queer and trans studies.
