Ready to apply? For the 2024 - 2025 academic year, the Digital Studies Graduate Committee will be reviewing applications twice a year. Once during Fall 2024 and once during Winter 2025.
Fall 2024 Application Deadline: October 15, 2024
Winter 2025 Application Deadline: March 15, 2024
Students who have completed at least one semester of study are welcome to apply for the Certificate Program with the following materials:
- A letter of application explaining your interest in the program, background in Digital Studies, and/or other relevant preparation (for example, coursework that demonstrates an interest or research focus in Digital Studies)
- A list of proposed courses that will fulfill the program requirements, including any already taken
- A current transcript demonstrating at least a "B" average in graduate or professional school (or at their undergraduate institution for entering students)
- One statement of support from a faculty sponsor confirming the applicant’s ability to succeed in the certificate program
Upon admission to the DS certificate program, applicants already enrolled in Rackham will also need to complete a Rackham Pre-Approval Form for Dual Admission. Students will complete section A of the form and will then need to obtain signatures from both their home department and Digital Studies.
Applications will be evaluated by the Digital Studies Graduate Committee, and decisions will be made based on the applicant’s demonstration of, preparation for, commitment to, and understanding of Digital Studies, based on their letter of application, coursework plan, and letter of recommendation. Prime consideration will be given to those graduate students with strong academic records who anticipate integrating Digital Studies methods and topics into their future research and professional pursuits.
If you have questions about any of the above requirements or the Digital Studies Graduate Certificate Program generally, or if you would like to discuss coursework options, email the DS Director of Graduate Studies, Germaine Halegoua, at dsi-grad.director@umich.edu.
If you are ready to apply, please fill out the application form here. Alternatively, you may send the required materials listed above to Sarah Torsch at dsi-studentservices@umich.edu.
